Start with the browser that will open Instagram
This walkthrough covers Instagram on the web in a desktop browser profile, using AdsPower as the configuration example. A proxy entered in that profile applies to its browsing session. It does not configure the Instagram app on your phone. Keep the browser and the connection you are testing together throughout the setup.
Have an Instagram account you own or are authorized to manage, a browser profile you can edit, and an available proxy with its connection details. The task here is to connect that profile through the intended address and verify it. A working proxy connection does not guarantee that Instagram will accept the address.
If your immediate task is to use the mobile app, stop before changing a desktop profile: those settings will not answer that question. Check the proxy options documented for your device and client instead. Similarly, avoid changing a computer-wide proxy just to configure one browser profile. Keep the scope of the connection clear so your checks measure the browser you actually plan to use.
Choose an address you can keep using
For routine publishing, replies and account reviews, start with a fixed address. IPMusk Static ISP assigns an IP for a 30 or 90 day term, with manual renewal. Native ISP and ISP are separate address pools with different location lists and prices; both provide fixed ISP addresses. The name alone does not establish that one pool works better with Instagram.
Rotating Residential has a different job. You buy traffic, then choose rotating or sticky behavior when generating the connection. Rotating changes the exit between requests. Sticky holds an address for the selected session duration of 1, 3, 10 or 30 minutes; it is not an address reservation for tomorrow. If you need daily continuity, a fixed IP avoids depending on a short sticky window.
| Your task | Starting choice | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Return to the same browser profile daily | Static ISP | Assigned location, expiry date and manual renewal |
| Complete a short session with a residential exit | Sticky Residential | Session duration and remaining traffic |
| Check public pages with changing exits | Rotating Residential | Whether changing addresses fits the task |
Copy the four connection fields
For Static ISP, open Static ISP → Proxies in the IPMusk dashboard, then open the available resource. Copy its host, port, username and password. Use the values assigned to that specific resource. The residential gateway is not a substitute for a static resource's host and port.
For Residential, open Residential → Connect, choose the country, session mode and protocol, then copy the generated connection. IPMusk's residential gateway is gate.ipmusk.com on port 31212. Copy the full generated username because it carries the selected connection options. Do not replace it with your IPMusk account email or login password.
IPMusk proxy connections use username and password authentication, without IP allowlisting. Put each value in the matching field. If your client accepts a combined line, confirm its required order before pasting. A host, a port and two credentials can look plausible while being in the wrong places.
Add the proxy to one AdsPower profile
AdsPower's official Create a profile guide documents New profile, the Proxy tab, Custom, Check proxy and OK. Labels may vary with your installed version. Use the four separate fields if you are unsure about a combined import format. Configure one profile first so an input mistake is easy to find.
- 1Open the intended profile
Create a New profile, or edit the existing profile used for this account. Give it a recognizable name so you can return to the same session later.
- 2Choose Custom in Proxy
Select the protocol that matches your proxy connection. For an IPMusk static connection, HTTP is a documented starting choice. For Residential, match HTTP or SOCKS5 to the generated configuration.
- 3Enter the connection details
Fill in host, port, username and password. Copy from the same resource or generated connection, and remove accidental spaces at the beginning or end.
- 4Run Check proxy
Use the check button before saving. If it fails, correct the connection first. A successful check is a network result; it does not confirm an Instagram login.
- 5Save and open
Click OK, then Open the saved profile. Perform the exit-IP check below inside this browser window before opening Instagram.
Check the exit before entering account credentials
Open an IP lookup page inside the configured profile. For a static resource, compare the reported address with the IP assigned in your dashboard. For Residential, check the selected country and session behavior. Repeat the lookup in the same profile if you need to see whether an address changes; do not compare a proxy check in one browser with a page opened in another.
A country mismatch deserves a closer look before login. Confirm the selected resource or residential country, reopen the saved profile and check again. Geolocation databases can disagree, so keep the observed IP and the lookup result together when reporting an issue. A country label alone is not evidence that all browsing traffic uses the intended connection.
Once those checks pass, open Instagram in that same profile and use your normal sign-in process. If Instagram asks for an account verification step, complete its official recovery or verification flow. Changing the proxy repeatedly does not diagnose an account challenge, and a passing proxy check does not remove it.
Find which check failed
Keep a short record of the symptom, when it occurred, the selected protocol and whether an IP lookup worked in the same profile. Never put your proxy password, account password or cookies in a support screenshot. The useful distinction is between reaching the proxy, authenticating to it and opening the destination.
- Authentication error or 407: copy the proxy username and password again. Check that you did not paste your website login details or omit part of a generated residential username.
- Connection timeout: recheck host, port and protocol together. Confirm the resource is available and has not expired; for Residential, check the package's expiry and remaining traffic.
- Lookup shows the usual direct address: confirm the page is inside the profile you edited. Check whether the profile saved the proxy fields before changing other settings.
- The address changes unexpectedly: inspect rotating versus sticky mode. A sticky session has a time limit; a fixed static resource is the option for returning through one assigned address.
- IP lookup works but Instagram does not: record the exact destination message. Do not treat a challenge, account restriction or destination response as proof that the proxy password is wrong.
Keep the working profile and renewal date
After setup, keep a private mapping between the browser profile and its assigned proxy resource. Record the expiry date and set your own renewal reminder for a static IP. Renewal is manual at IPMusk. Check the resource status before the next session rather than discovering an expired address while trying to publish.
