Connect Trae to IPMusk

Add IPMusk to Trae as a manual MCP server. Trae's agent can then read your account and build proxy URLs while it codes.

Who this is for

Developers who use Trae, the AI IDE from ByteDance (字节跳动), in the China or the international edition.

Using TRAE CLI in a terminal? See the section on it below.

What you need

  • An IPMusk account with a verified email address.
  • An IPMusk API key. Create it in Settings → API keys (/app/settings/api-keys). For typical use tick read and connect. Add support only if the assistant should open tickets, and order only if it should create orders that end in a payment link.
  • This client takes the key itself rather than reading the IPMUSK_API_KEY environment variable the other guides use. Keep the original in a password manager.
  • Trae installed. The steps are the same in both editions; menu names may differ slightly.
  • IPMusk applies the same source-country rules to the API and MCP as to the website, so connect from a region where ipmusk.com is available.

Set it up

  • There is no type field. Trae detects Streamable HTTP from the server's response.
  • Menu names change between Trae releases. If a step does not match, check Trae's current documentation.
  1. 1
    Open MCP settings

    In Trae, open Settings → MCP and choose Add.

  2. 2
    Add it manually

    Choose to add a server manually and pick the raw JSON option. The China edition labels it 原始配置 (JSON).

  3. 3
    Paste the config

    Paste the block below, replace ipm_live_YOUR_KEY with your key and confirm.

Manual config (JSON)
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "ipmusk": {
      "url": "https://ipmusk.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ipm_live_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

TRAE CLI

TRAE CLI reads MCP servers from a YAML config. Add this entry to its list of MCP servers. The file location and the list's key can change between versions, so check TRAE CLI's current documentation.

MCP server entry (YAML)
- name: ipmusk
  type: http
  url: https://ipmusk.com/mcp
  headers:
    Authorization: Bearer ipm_live_YOUR_KEY

Check it works

Open Settings → MCP. ipmusk should show as connected with its tools. Use it from an agent that has MCP tools turned on.

Ask the assistant: Which IPMusk account am I connected as? It should call get_account and answer with your email address.

Try these prompts

  • How much IPMusk residential traffic do I have left?
  • Get a sticky US proxy URL for 10 minutes and use it in this script.
  • List my IPMusk Static ISP proxies and when they expire.

If it fails

  • 401 authentication_required: the key is wrong, revoked or expired. Paste it again without extra spaces.
  • The server shows an error: check the JSON is valid and the URL is exactly https://ipmusk.com/mcp.
  • The agent does not use the tools: turn on the IPMusk tools for the agent you chat with.
  • 403 forbidden on one tool: the key lacks that tool's scope, or your email is not verified. Scopes cannot be added to a key, so create a new key with the scope and swap it in.
  • 429 rate_limited: too many calls in one minute (read 60, connect 20, support 30, order 10). Wait a minute and try again.

Remove access

  • Revoke the key in Settings → API keys (/app/settings/api-keys). It stops working at once.
  • Then delete the ipmusk server in Trae under Settings → MCP, or the entry in TRAE CLI's config.
